What Will Happen in 2012?
Are we truly coming to the end of a cosmic cycle? Will there be an age of awakening, a new step in human evolution, or even an end to the world we know? For years, archaeologists have known the Mayan calendar predicts this date as the end of an era on Earth. Yet today, more and more researchers, spiritual explorers, and even scientists are witnessing signs that 2012 will mark a critical shift in the history of our planet.

Featuring articulate and lucid essays from dozens of renowned experts on the question of 2012, this invaluable anthology offers all the information necessary to examine the mystery from every angle—spiritual, economic, ecological, and scientific—and to decide for yourself whether 2012 will end with a whimper or a bang. In The Mystery of 2012, you will discover the startling predictions and revelations of prominent thinkers, including:

bullet Gregg Braden’s examination of the scientific evidence for a shift in the Earth’s magnetic field, and how it will affect all life

bullet Barbara Marx Hubbard’s and Peter Russell’s explorations of the accelerating pace of evolution—why we may literally be transforming into a new species

bullet Ecologist Joanna R. Macy’s vision of “The Great Turning,” and how we can take part in this shift to a life-sustaining culture

bullet Daniel Pinchbeck’s investigation of the shift of consciousness that will be necessary for humanity to survive 2012

bullet Jean Houston’s predictions on the coming “Jump Time,” and her practical advice for dealing with the impact it will have on your life

bullet Corinne McLaughlin's discussion of using spirituality and consciousness to influence business and political trends, how these arenas are already shifting and what we can expect in the next decade

What, if anything, is in store for us in 2012? Whether you are a skeptic, a true believer, or simply “2012-curious,” The Mystery of 2012 offers you a thought-provoking and comprehensive exploration into the possibilities of this approaching landmark in human history.

Dear Friends,

What an incredible time to be alive!  In just one short year, massive numbers of people have been waking up to the environmental disasters spreading rapidly—major wildfires, flooding and species extinction—and responding in surprisingly positive and creative ways.  From major banks pledging billions in investments in sustainable technologies, to explosions in “green building” and hybrid, fuel-efficient cars, to mass marketing of organic produce, to individuals reducing their own carbon impact and energy use—the environmental crisis has offered new opportunities. We can now recreate the world in a more life-enhancing, sustainable way.

It’s a great time to meditate on the nature of change and impermanence—the central teaching of the Buddha—as our lives will never be the same again.  Everything is constantly changing, so don’t be attached to anything remaining static.  Release resistance to change and look for spiritual growth opportunities embedded within the emerging crises.  Now is the time to clarify your values and make a deeper commitment to them.  Align with your higher purpose—your soul’s mission—and you’ll be guided each step of the way. Remember the ultimate safety net amidst all the rapid change—reliance on Spirit. We’ve include a Meditation on Shifting as our spiritual practice this issue—shifting into an expanded awareness.

At this very moment a new world is emerging right through the cracks and crevices of the old world.  For a preview of how this new world will look in the fields of business and science, see articles below by Corinne McLaughlin (Socially Responsible Business in 2012) and Karl Maret, M.D. (Scientific Breakthroughs in 2012) from their chapters in the newly released book, The Mystery of 2012: Predictions, Prophecies and Possibilities.  At this very moment we are each creating the future by our thoughts and actions.  So what kind of world do you want to live in?

With love and best wishes,

Corinne McLaughlin, Gordon Davidson and Ginger Young

Those who don’t drink dawn
Like a cup of spring water,
Or take in sunset like supper,
Those who don’t want to change,
Let them sleep.

2012: SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS

 © 2006 Corinne McLaughlin

Are you stuck in fear and dread about looming disasters culminating in 2012?  If so, I’d like to help shift the way you look at the world, especially business and politics. Why not imagine a better world in the future and live this vision moment to moment in the choices you make and the work that you do?  In this way you can help create it.

We as humanity have a choice: do we want to see the physical and emotional suffering of the old world increase, both personally and collectively, or do we want to experience more of the beauty of the new world?  Each and every one of us as members of the human family is facing a great soul choice:  Which path will we take in the coming years of upheaval and change?

The choice is between holding onto old, self-centered patterns of thinking or opening yourself to new values and more peaceful and sustainable ways of living. One choice leads to escalating crises and chaos; learning the hard way through increased physical and emotional suffering brought on by selfishness and greed.  The other choice offers the evolutionary opportunity to be more compassionate and caring about the good of others and so build a new civilization.  Although there is a higher non-dual reality beyond this seeming duality of new and old worlds, right now at our human level we must make choices and act

Did you know that at this very moment a new world is emerging right through the cracks and crevices of the old world?  It’s alive, growing and vibrant, in stark contrast to the old world that is running on fear, anger and greed. By 2012 this new world, born out of the creative minds and compassionate hearts of self-empowered visionaries everywhere, will be even more visible and influential, impacting every aspect of life.

These practical visionaries, whom I call “the Builders of the Dawn,” are found in all fields of life and in all nations. They’re bringing new ideas and solutions to our problems—from war and terrorism to poverty and environmental destruction. These visionaries often seem like they are glowing from within, as they are filled with light and passion.

MEDITATION ON SHIFTING
© 2007 Gordon Davidson

The following are some seed thoughts to reflect on in meditation.  Begin with taking a few deep breaths and connect with the deeper Spirit within yourself, as you affirm:

I am shifting to a recognition that I can best seek my own good by seeking the good of all, as this provides the greatest release, freedom and benefit to everyone, including myself.

I am shifting to an understanding of the One Life, within which all humanity lives, and I sustain and love that Life as my own self –for it truly is.

I am shifting from outer gratification to inner unfoldment and growth, to develop my capacities for making a greater contribution to the world.

I am shifting to the cultivation of those values and principles that bring expansion and understanding, so that through my life example, I can radiate the conscious joy of living by them.

I am shifting to a realization that we, as humanity, are part of a teeming, multidimensional field of life, light and consciousness, with many benevolent beings seeking to help us.

I am shifting to an acceptance that humankind is truly all “one kind,” so the kindness I extend to “my kind” can be extended to all equally, regardless of outer distinctions and differences.

2012: SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGHS

by Karl Maret M.D.

The following is an excerpt from Karl’s chapter in the new book, The Mystery of 2012

What changes can we expect after 2012?

There will be many great breakthroughs in science and technology, medicine and art, culture and religious understanding.  Today's cutting-edge inventions, including quantum computing, new nanotechnology materials engineering, artificial intelligence and genetic engineering will be greatly expanded.  What is in the horizon includes elemental transmutation, unlimited energy from the quantum vacuum states, silent transportation system based on levitation principles, epigenetic engineering, light and sound healing through energy medicine modalities, and new theories of electrodynamics that collectively presage a massive shift in human creativity in the 21st Century.

In the scientific arena, a new understanding of electrodynamics will begin to emerge.  Around 100 years ago, Nicola Tesla, the inventor of modern alternating current technology, described longitudinal waves or Tesla radiations that were markedly different from the 19th Century electromagnetic theories of James Clerk Maxwell, the theoretical physicist who developed the first field theory of modern physics. While Maxwell spoke of transverse electromagnetic waves moving at the speed of light, in contrast, Tesla spoke of scalar or longitudinal waves that work through resonance processes and have great relevance for medicine and healing.   This scalar wave technology is already at work in your cell phones although this is not generally understood in the electrical engineering community.6

Russian and German scientists have also discovered that we live in an ordered, interconnected universe where all matter is organized according to a fractal mathematical order.  This new understanding is called Global Scaling.  These discoveries describe the harmonic structure of logarithmic space, explain the nature of our universal constants, and define the non-linear but fractal, hyperbolic scales that organize the universe.7  Global scaling will revolutionize communication technologies, create more environmentally friendly designs, impact biotechnology and medicine, and impact anti-gravity research.

Light technologies will rapidly advance to revolutionize human health and well-being.  The body communicates at the cellular level through coherent light called biophotons.8   This radiation from living tissues was already discovered by Dr. Gurwitsch in Russia in the 1920s and originally called mitogenic radiation.  Today researchers in many parts of the world are studying the effect of agricultural methods, food processing technologies and water treatment systems on cellular health through biophoton research.

Letters from the Editor....

”Mucho Gracias for your well-written article on Violence and the wonderfully insightful analysis. I agree with the solutions recommended and will definitely put them into practice. However, Maharishi’s TM program has shown in multiple studies all over the world that if enough people (Sq. Root of 1% of population) meditate and declare their intention to reduce crime that it does. I think one of the more practical solutions is for more people to learn to meditate and get into a state of intention where they can begin to transform the life of their fellow beings. We also need to learn from the example of Amish folks who invited the family of the murderer to a thanksgiving prayer and declared their communal forgiveness for the murderer. Peace begets peace.”—Saleem Javaid, Georgia

“I agree with most, if not all, of what you say in your Violence article.  However, when you speak of the ancients understanding the connectedness of it all, you fail to mention that in spite of all of that, the ancients were just as violent then (if not more), as we are today.  Violence is not a modern phenomenon. It was practiced before there were ever weapons to be wielded. It is practiced in nature today and is a fact of life and evolution.....something must die for something to live. It is the cycle of life. –Steve Cook

“Many thanks for your wonderful newsletter. I love every article and your photos are very beautiful and inspiring…I'm sending you an abundance of positive energy for a truly blessed day!”-- Jo Singel, New York, New York

“Your Prayer for Our Nation really struck a chord.  I am totally worn out physically and spiritually by all the garbage that passes for news.  You have given me a prayer to turn myself around and to turn the world around.  Positive actions are needed.  Thank you.” --Kathleen Murray

“On 9/11 2001, I was scheduled to be at the World Trade center. The meeting was canceled and my life was saved. This experience was an inspiration to write a "letter to my daughters". In this letter I share my faith, hope, love and experiences. My loving intent is to remind everyone to do the same.  People worry about material things by leaving "Wills" but our hopes, faith and love are left to memories. Why not write a letter or make a video for your loved ones.  If everyone just took the time to reflect, our world would immediately grow in love and peace. In addition to the above my brother passed over from cancer last year.  In his honor and based on my own experiences above. I developed a web-site titled: aletteroflove.com  Please visit and send the message to your viewing audience.  The website is free and I am not selling anything except Peace and Love.” --Ken Jablonski

“I wanted to share more info about our Prayer Peace Circle at Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation (www.shalem.org) in the hope that people can link subjectively with our Circle or start their own Circle.  Prayer (or Meditation) Peace Circles are a simple and effective way to further peace in our hearts, our communities and the world.  Shalem hosts a weekly public Prayer Peace Circle from 12:00 – 12:45 pm EDT on Wednesdays.  The intention of our circle is prayer for peace, connection in community and encouragement to claim and live a vision of peace in our hearts, in our communities and in the world.  We trust that this will have a loving and healing effect for the world.  At the beginning of our Circle, we link both with those who are joining our Circle in Spirit but are unable to be physically present and with other Peace Circles. Others are welcome to use it as a template for their own Peace Circle. I would appreciate it if people would let me know via email (kit@shalem.org) if they are joining us or creating their own Peace Circle.  Below is the format we use for our Prayer Peace Circle:

  1. Welcome, Statement of Intent (see above), and Linking with those who join us in Spirit.

  2. Opening Prayer or Reading (we use prayers from Peace Planet by Nan Merrill and Barbara Taylor.

  3. 20 – 30 Minutes of Silence

  4. Silent Reflection Time on What Blocks Us from Being Peace or Helps Us to Be Peace

  5. Collecting Our Prayers (in the silence of our hearts or aloud)

  6. Closing Prayer or Reading

  7. Chanting of the Word “shalom” (peace) three times

Envision peace. Pray for peace. Be peace.” --Kit Turen, Washington, DC

“Thanks for your efforts in changing the world of business. I am a researcher in the field of marketing, directing the Centre for Applied Studies in Marketing at I.S.A.G. Business School in Portugal.  My work is a new concept of leadership for companies and organisations based on a theory which I call Dharma Marketing….For the Buddhists, Dharma is that which guides the mind. Dharma Marketing wishes to set the conditions for the necessary spiritual changes to occur, aiming to reach a sustainable proximity of all stakeholders…. Reality can be understood as what each individual perceives it to be. For the marketers, this is one of the most important axioms, since marketing isn't a battle of products and services, but a battle of perceptions. Therefore, the most effective marketing is that which reaches the consumer's mind more deeply, satisfying needs at a psychological or subconscious level.
