Dear Friends,

In times of crisis and upheaval like today, you can turn to the source of strength and wisdom that is always available within you—your soul or higher self.  This is the inner Divinity, the presence of God/Spirit/Buddha within you, as honored in every religion (see quotes below). This can be a steady anchor and source of support, regardless of outer circumstances.  All you need to do is dial up your soul—through meditation or prayer. Since each person’s consciousness has an impact on the collective energy field, it’s crucial to stay centered spiritually.

As so many people are being impacted by the economic crisis today, feeling fearful for their future, we are offering a spiritual practice in this Soul Light for Transforming Fear and a clear way to navigate uncertainty on both a personal and global level with Louise Diamond’s brilliant Rules of Systems Thinking for Complex Global Issues.

Despite fear, there is also cautious optimism worldwide because of the new tone being set in Washington by the Obama administration—respectful dialogue, listening to all points of view, and finding common ground. Like him, we each need to practice seeing the best in every culture and religion, as no leader, no matter how brilliant, can transform the world alone.

Also in this issue, Gordon Davidson explores the The Science of Circulatory Health and Barbara Ludwig shares her personal experiences with Multiple Intelligences, States of Grace, and Whole Person Spirituality.

We invite you to listen to a remarkable free podcast with Corinne McLaughlin and Sounds True founder, Tami Simon, on The Politics of Dynamic Change (see link below).  And you might want to order the new, inspiring 5 CD set by Sounds True on the Mystery of 2012 with Corinne and other well-known visionaries.

Join us June 17 for our seminar on Co-Creating the New World of Synthesis: How You Can Be a Practical Visionary at the leading edge Noetic Sciences Conference in Tucson, AZ. And this Fall, check out our chapter on Spirit in Business in the new book, Good Business, published by Unity House.

With best wishes,

Corinne McLaughlin, Gordon Davidson, and Ginger Young

THE SCIENCE OF CIRCULATORY HEALTH: A KEY TO THE NEW CIVILIZATION

 © 2009 by Gordon Davidson

The Origins of Circulation

Full circulation to all parts of any organism is the key to health, whether humans, nature, or our planet as a whole.  Just as stagnant water is unhealthy, and flowing water is oxygenated and generally healthier (if it not polluted from other sources), so flowing energy in all dimensions tends to be healthier for living systems.  Our blood must circulate freely to bring oxygen and nutrients to all our organs, and our nervous system needs to circulate information to keep us safe and well-functioning.  Resources, goods, and services need to circulate widely around the world to ensure the well-being of all life.

While any form exists, it is sustained by the circulation of light energy, which is stepped down into light substance.  Energies flow from the more subtle, spiritual realms and are stepped down into the denser, material realms. Forms in each dimension require specific types of energies. Humans, for example, need circulating energies of air, water, food, and sunlight to live and thrive, as do animals and plants.   But humans also require an exchange with other human beings.  Every form of life is fed by a web of circulating energies flowing to and through it from multiple dimensions, many hidden from human view.

As it’s said in the Ageless Wisdom, all parts of the solar system are interdependent; all the forces and energies are in constant flux and mutation; all of them sweep in great pulsations, through a form of rhythmic breathing, around the entire solar system.

Human beings and all life in the universe receive prana (life energy) and active radiatory heat from the sun, which varies in vibration and quality according to the life which receives it. Each life form then changes and colors this energy and passes it on to other life forms.  The circulation of energies of all types, throughout all systems and all life, is a key causal factor in all activity, experience and growth towards ever greater perfection.

Karma also circulates. As it’s said, “what goes around, comes around”—we reap what we sow.  Causes we set in motion return to us, providing opportunities for learning and growth. Many of the problems and issues we face in the world today are karmic patterns of thought and emotion, some set in motion centuries ago, which are still circulating today. The only way to be freed from karmic cycles is to cease initiating new cycles of negative causes and cultivate forgiveness for all past actions.

MEDITATION ON TRANSFORMING FEAR

By Corinne McLaughlin

With the economic and other crises impacting us today, it’s helpful to directly address issues of fear that might arise:

Begin your meditation by taking a few deep breaths to relax and center yourself.

Invite the presence of your soul or higher self and align with the great Masters and Teachers of humanity.

Visualize white light pouring in through the top of your head to cleanse and balance your mind.

Become mentally detached from the emotional aspect of fear--just observe, rather than suppress or inhibit--the fear.

Explore the deeper origins of your fear in the past, so that it will not rule your life in the present; notice how circumstances are different today.

Visualize a flow of love into your solar plexus to calm your emotions—love and fear cannot co-exist in the same psychic space as they are different vibrations.

Work on controlling your imagination, seeing it become calmer and more balanced, so that paranoia doesn’t take hold and start expanding.

Trust that you are being inwardly guided by your soul and nothing can happen to you except what is ultimately for the best.

Realize the true issues at stake and develop a willingness to learn from whatever happens.

Meditate on how every experience can lead to increased knowledge and development, and greater usefulness in service.

Invoke the spiritual fire of courage to strengthen you.

Visualize acting “as if” you are unafraid and soon this will become the reality.

Close with an affirmation to strengthen you, such as:  “I trust God to guide me in all times and situations so I can relax and be a channel for God’s love and wisdom.”

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES, STATES OF GRACE AND WHOLE PERSON SPIRITUALITY

© 2009 by Barbara Ludwig, LPC (ret.)

There is a legend that during the Buddha’s lifetime one of his cousins tried to kill him. The Buddha referred to this cousin as one of his most important teachers in his development of compassion and patience.  Buddhism teaches that when we walk the spiritual path, our responsibility is to comprehend that all life is precious and all sentient beings suffer, and so we should act in ways that compassionately embrace and serve to end all suffering.

I learned something of this when I worked professionally as a transdisciplinary assessment specialist with a young man who was abandoned by his parents as a child after he was diagnosed as deaf and mentally retarded. At some point his house had burned down, possibly by his own hand.

As he grew tall and strong, Davey was “warehoused” in ever more restrictive institutional settings where the caretakers viewed him as a feral and unapproachable tiger of a boy.  He was described to me as having little intelligence (only dangerous and destructive instincts), no communication, and no feelings for other people.

Within the context of Davey’s existence, the questions of spiritual connectedness and how he might experience a state of grace seemed utterly irrelevant, but those questions were precisely what intrigued me the most  What I knew I wanted to do was to simply sit quietly in Davey’s physical presence.  Somehow sitting with a deaf young man, wanting nothing and doing nothing, we both seemed to be shifting.  What part of my intelligence knew that, during this time, Davey would be my spiritual master?

Featured Visionary Leader:

TWELVE SIMPLE RULES OF SYSTEMS THINKING FOR COMPLEX GLOBAL ISSUES

Louise Diamond, Ph.D.

The study of living systems – through biology, physics, mathematics, cybernetics, ecology, complexity theory, chaos theory, systems theory, and other sciences – helps us understand the world we live in and how we can better navigate its rich, if sometimes daunting, complexity.

Our human systems at various levels of organization – the individual, families, communities, affinity groups, organizations, nations, international entities, etc. – all exhibit the common dynamics of living systems.

We are increasingly aware that all our living systems – human and natural – are at risk today, as we face incredibly complex and interconnected challenges related to global security, environmental degradation, and inter-woven economies.  Understanding the nature and dynamics of living systems, therefore, can shed light on how we think about our problems and our resources, and about the assumptions and the choices we make.

Here are 12 basic concepts about living systems and their implications for policy considerations:

  1. In complex systems, all the elements or agents are interconnected, as in a giant web.  They are also interdependent – what happens to one affects all others.  Therefore:  Connect the disconnected.

  1. Complexity is the nature and condition of living systems and the world we live in.  What we know about complex systems is that there are multiple agents or elements, combining and interacting in unpredictable and non-linear ways.  This means decisions often lead to unintended consequences.  Therefore:  Ground yourself in unpredictability.

Letters to the Editor...

“It's always a fine inspiration to receive Soul Light. Thank you for creating and nurturing the newsletter. The focus on the financial crisis/evolution of our understanding of economics is timely, indeed.  I am very keen to include some of this in my meditation class, particularly the meditation related to money.  Interesting how I used to feel reluctant to bring money into a spiritual framework, but now I can't wait!” --Anne-Birgitte Mullins, Aalborg, Denmark

“I very much enjoyed your financial reflections in the last issue. I was facilitator for my men's group session this past week and used your reflections as background for exploring how the group members were responding personally to the vulnerable place both financially and ecologically we find ourselves in. It is challenging to keep the fears and insecurities from oppressing.” --Bill Paulson, Washington, DC

“Thanks very much for your timely articles on the financial situation and how we can all choose to relate to it.  I have passed it on to the readers of my free, online, international peace and justice newsletter.” --Leslie Sheridan, Vineburg, CA

“I liked your message about adapting to the current economic conditions.” --Vicki Robin, Langley, WA

The Center for Visionary Leadership was founded by Corinne McLaughlin and Gordon Davidson in 1996 as a non-denominational educational center to help people develop the inner, spiritual resources to be effective leaders and respond creatively to change. Our purpose is to develop and support values-based visionary leadership in all fields of human endeavor, especially business and politics. We offer educational programs on spiritual development and social change, and a free regular electronic newsletter with articles, spiritual practices, and featured visionary leaders.

Our approach is based on the Ageless Wisdom, the golden thread that connects the deeper, inner teachings of the world's spiritual traditions. We are non-partisan, transcending old categories of left and right and creating a new, practical synthesis.
